About

Professional engineer & researcher with a wide range of interests in low carbon technologies.

Bio

I’m an early proponent of ultra low energy buildings, designing one of the countries first independently verified zero energy low cost buildings SHINE-ZC in 2008. A chartered engineer with over thirty years experience, and an academic with a wide range of peer reviewed publications in the building physics and renewable space.

Interests

I’m passionately interested in the enviroment and a keen nature lover.

I’m interested in Anerobic digestion a technology for turning biowaste into renewable energy. Among the many interesting projects I’ve worked on the research phase of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation – Reinvent the Toilet Challenge was memorable. I enjoyed working with a highly motivated and skilled team on a philantropic project.

Building physics is a main focus, I’m especially interested in how buildings will integrate into the electrical distribution system as we move away from gas heating. Inevitably this will lead to deeper building control integration moving forward. This opens up huge possibilities, as well as huge potential security issues moving forward.

In my free time I’m an avid rock climber, I enjoy the physicality of moving over difficulty terrain.
